Welcome to Coronado

Just across the bridge and a world away.

Coronado, California, is a special place that holds a lot of memories and meaning for me. It’s a charming island town with a unique blend of elegance and coastal relaxation. Let me share why Coronado has a special place in my heart, from my favorite spots to eat and things to do, to how this beautiful town helped me recharge during a pivotal time in my life.

Beautiful Beaches and Relaxing Strolls

One of the things I love most about Coronado is its stunning beaches. Coronado Central Beach, with its expansive sandy shores and views of the historic Hotel Del Coronado, is a favorite spot of mine. The beach is perfect for a relaxing day by the ocean or an evening stroll.

When I lived in Coronado and was working on building and opening Storyhouse Spirits, an award-winning whiskey and gin distillery in downtown San Diego, I would walk the length of Coronado Beach from end to end each evening. These walks were my way of unwinding, clearing my head, and recharging my batteries. The peaceful sound of the waves and the stunning views were the perfect backdrop for reflecting on the day's work and reenergizing for the challenges ahead.

Dining Favorites

When it comes to dining, Coronado offers some fantastic options. One of my favorite places is The Crown Bistro, which serves up delicious, locally sourced dishes in a relaxed yet elegant setting. It’s a great spot for both a special dinner or a casual lunch.

Peohe’s is another favorite of mine. Situated right on the waterfront, it offers beautiful views and a menu full of fresh seafood and tropical-inspired dishes. It’s a great place to enjoy a meal with a stunning bay and city backdrop.

The Coronado Lifestyle

Coronado has a unique charm that combines sophistication with a laid-back island vibe. The Coronado Village area is perfect for exploring, with its boutiques, galleries, and cafes. It’s a delightful place to stroll, shop, and soak in the local atmosphere. The community here is incredibly welcoming, and there are numerous events throughout the year, including the renowned 4th of July celebration.

Coronado knows how to celebrate Independence Day like no other. The day kicks off with a charming parade featuring colorful floats and lively bands. Afterward, the town comes alive with family-friendly activities and picnics. As the sun sets, the highlight of the day arrives with a spectacular fireworks show launched from the bay, creating a stunning display of light and color that reflects beautifully on the water.

Proud Moments and Family Memories

I also have fond memories of spending time at the beach, watching my daughter grow up perfecting her cut shots and volleyball skills in CBVA tournaments. Those were such proud moments for me as she honed her talent, eventually earning a place on the college beach volleyball team at the University of Hawaii. I often found myself in a beach chair, cheering her on and savoring every moment of her journey.

Outdoor Activities

For outdoor enthusiasts, Coronado offers excellent activities. The Coronado Golf Course provides beautiful views and a fantastic place to play a round of golf. Additionally, the island’s bike paths and parks are great for leisurely rides or relaxing afternoons.

A Personal Connection

Living in Coronado while working on Storyhouse Spirits was an exceptional time for me. The town’s beauty and tranquility provided the perfect environment for reflection and rejuvenation during a busy and exciting period in my life.
